Beyond the Classroom: How Expanded Learning Programs Support Your Child

We are excited to introduce and share more about our Expanded Learning Programs, which include our After School Programs, Winter Crew, and Summer Squad. These programs are designed to provide students with enriching opportunities beyond the regular school day, helping to foster a love of learning and to support the development of valuable skills for success.

What is Expanded Learning?

Expanded Learning refers to programs and activities that take place outside of the traditional school day but still focus on educational growth. Our After School Programs and Intersessions are both part of this initiative, offering students the chance to continue learning in a fun and engaging way.

After School Programs

Our After School Programs provide students with a safe and structured environment where they can explore activities that interest them while continuing to develop academically and socially. Whether your child loves art, sports, science, or coding, our program offerings are diverse and aim to meet the needs of all learners. These programs are not only a great way for your child to stay engaged after school, but they also help build critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.

Intersessions

Intersessions, like our Winter Crew and Summer Squad camps, are another key component of Expanded Learning Programs. These programs allow students to participate in focused learning experiences outside of the regular school year. Intersessions are designed to keep students engaged during long breaks by offering a mix of fun, hands-on activities that support academic growth while encouraging creativity and exploration. They provide an opportunity to dive deeper into subjects students love or explore new interests in a dynamic, interactive setting.

The Purpose of Expanded Learning Programs

The primary goal of our Expanded Learning Programs is to give students the opportunity to thrive outside of the regular school day. These programs are designed to:

  • Support Academic Achievement: Keep students engaged in learning, preventing the “summer slide” or “vacation lag,” and helping to strengthen their knowledge in key subjects.
  • Promote Social-Emotional Development: Create a safe, supportive environment where students can build confidence, develop social skills, and form meaningful relationships.
  • Foster Creativity & Exploration: Allow students to explore new interests, talents, and skills that may not be offered during the regular school day.
  • Prepare for the Future: Equip students with skills like collaboration, critical thinking, and problem-solving, all of which are essential for success in the 21st century.

We are thrilled to offer these programs to help your child grow both academically and personally. We hope your family will take advantage of these exciting learning opportunities throughout the year that our district offers within the new Department of Expanded Learning Programs.
